Verify your MX records
Before adjusting any mail client settings, confirm that your domain is pointing to TierraNet's mail servers. You can run a quick MX lookup at Google Toolbox or whatsmydns.net.
Your domain's MX records should resolve to mx1.daemonmail.net and mx2.daemonmail.net. If they don't and you are hosting email through us, update your DNS settings accordingly. If you get a different result of MX results, then your email services are not hosted through us.
Apple Mail (Mac) — enable SMTP authentication
If your MX records are correct, the most common cause is that SMTP authentication is not enabled in Apple Mail. Follow these steps to enable it:
- 1Open Apple Mail. In the top menu bar, choose Mail → Settings (or Preferences on older macOS versions).
- 2Select the Accounts tab, then choose the account you want to configure.
- 3Click the Server Settings tab. Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), uncheck Automatically manage connection settings to reveal the advanced options.
- 4Set the Authentication dropdown to Password.
- 5Click Save in the bottom-right corner.
iPhone
If you're also experiencing this issue on your iPhone, follow these steps:
- 1Open Settings and scroll down to Mail. Tap it.
- 2Tap Accounts, then select the email account with the issue.
- 3Tap Account, then scroll down to Outgoing Mail Server and tap SMTP.
- 4Tap Primary Server. If the username and password fields show "Optional", enter them manually. The username is your full email address; the password is the one specific to that account.
- 5Tap Authentication and select Password so the blue checkmark appears. Tap Back.
- 6On the previous screen, confirm that Authentication shows Password, then tap Done in the top-right corner. Your iPhone will briefly verify the server settings.
- 7Tap Account to return to account settings, then tap Done again to save.
Once you've saved your settings, send a few test emails to confirm that delivery is working correctly.
