What is DNS?

DNS (Domain Name System) is a naming system for computers and services connected to the internet or a private network.

DNS tells other systems where to go when someone tries to resolve your domain name. DNS acts as a sort of phone book for the internet by translating hostnames into IP addresses.

It's typically much easier for us all to remember words over a series of numbers and DNS makes this possible.
