We realize how important web and email services are, and we are grateful to have been entrusted with your account services and information. To this end, we have extended support for a wide variety of two-step authentication methods, which can help secure your TierraNet administrative account and protect your valuable domains, as well as the website files and email services housed within your control panel.
- Log in to your TierraNet account
- Mouse over Account
- Click on Security
- Upon clicking this link, you will be shown the Account Security page where two-step authentication can be added to your account. Note: Accounts are strongly encouraged to have multiple two-step authentication methods enabled.
We offer the following two-step authentication methods:
Security Key-
Authentication is done using Public-Key cryptography. The Security Key device registers the user to our server by registering a Public Key. When authenticating, the device signs a challenge from the server using the Private Key that it holds.
Using a Security Key is better than receiving tokens via a TOTP App or pins via text message because these can be phished or intercepted. Additionally, because the credential is tied to a specific website using HTTPS, if you accidentally end up on a phishing site, your device will detect that the domain is different, and any data provided will not be valid.
Authenticator App - TOTP or Time-based One-Time Password -
An Authenticator App works by generating a one-time password using a third-party application, such as Google's Authenticator. Upon correctly submitting your username and password, a screen will prompt you asking for the token to allow for the account to be accessed.
Email Message -
Email Message two-step authentication works by submitting a one-time security PIN sent to the email address of your choosing. This pin is sent upon correctly submitting your account's username and password credentials.
Text Message-
Text Message two-step authentication works by submitting a one-time security PIN sent to the phone number of your choosing. (SMS-enabled numbers only. Please note message and data rates may apply.) This pin is sent upon correctly submitting your account's username and password credentials.
Back-Up Codes-
TierraNet will generate a set of one-time-use back-up codes when requested, which will allow access on a one-time basis in the event that a two-step authentication method is not available. (e.g.: A one-time use code may be helpful if the mobile phone configured to receive text messages is not nearby.) Please save these codes.
